Celebrating 10 Years of Enjoying Fountain Pens

@tinyrayofsunshine

Today marks 10 years since I got my very first fountain pen!

This Pilot Varsity fountain pen is the one that started it all for me ten years ago. Before I saw this fountain pen in person, I thought that fountain pens were a historical marvel only to be read about in books or seen in movies and tv. I had no idea that they were still being made. I’m not sure why I thought that, but sometimes your preconceived notions are challenged and are worth reconsidering, especially when they’re staring you right in the face.

When I saw this fountain pen in a bookstore, I was so excited and turned to my partner, who also loves stationery, and I said, “Whoa, look at this - it’s a fountain pen!” He said, “Oh yeah, I’ve seen those and thought about grabbing one sometime.” I said, “What?! Well, I’m grabbing one, do you want one?” and thus began this marvelous fountain pen journey when I grabbed us each one.

Now, a decade and many fountain pens later, I still think fondly of this Pilot Varsity for getting me into the wonderful world of fountain pens.

There’s something so fun and soothing about writing with a fountain pen. I love the whole experience, from uncapping, to hearing that toothiness on paper, to writing out all of my thoughts. With the combination of different pens, nibs, inks, and paper - I think there’s definitely a fountain pen out there for everyone.

Thank you for sharing in the joy of fountain pens with me. 🖋💕 Enjoy this photo featuring ink spills from over the years, the most recent is one at the lower left.
